These Air Jordan 5 were designed by 11-year-old Michael Wilson who is suffers from Krabbe disease, an inherited disorder that destroys the myelin, the protective coating of nerve cells and throughout the nervous system.
This multi-hued Air Jordan 5 Low is inspired by young Michael’s love of airplanes, sharks and macaroni and cheese, the latter of which is imprinted on the blue areas at the toe and collar.
The black Velcro tongue is the canvas on which the interchangeable patches can be placed. Underneath the ettin I the lateral sides are laser eyes, which hearken to Michael’s favorite super power. On the lateral heel appears an embroidered “TAKE Flight”, while on the rear heel, Michael’s initials, “MDW” appears underneath the Jumpman. A “PULL TO EJECT” emblazoned pull and a macaroni lace dubrae rounds out the upper.
Below resides a red-toothed white midsole and translucent outsole underneath which an hourglass graphic can be seen.
The “Doernbecher” Air Jordan 5 is anticipated to release sooner rather than later in 2022.
